I lived in Nashville, Tennessee for a while. Like, a year. It was funny. I saw some amazing music there; but also, a lot of horrible music. Almost everyone in Nashville wants to make it in music, and everyone else wants to make the money that you might make if you make it in music. I wasn’t there for music at all: long story. But the Kopecky Family Band is from Nashville, and they make me miss it. They’re not really family, in the biological sense, but they get along the way you wish your own family did. They look like they’re just sitting on a porch killing a summer evening. What I wouldn’t give to be killing a summer evening with music right now! But alas, I’m in boots—serious, sexy boots—and jamming to this family while the wind blows and snow whirls about. But don’t get me wrong: this is no sleepy-time band—put your tea away. They’re rocking like Modest Mouse, or The National. There’s lots of energy: lots of dancing.
And the opening band rocked it, too. Keep an eye on Quiet Corral. Jesse Braswell Roberts is about the cutest boy ever. After the show, he gave me a CD! Win! Six guys from Lawrence, Kansas with the sound of about 60 guys. Their percussion just shook the place. They’re like a really rocking Americana version of David Grey.
